If you have chosen an electric vehicle, you might have questions about how the charging process works during a booking.

6 Steps to Start the Charging Process:

Generally speaking:

The charging process of an electric vehicle involves the following steps:

1. You need a charging card (to activate a charging station/point)

2. You need a charging station/point

3. You need a charging cable

4. You need to open the access point on the vehicle (similar to a fuel flap)

5. You need to connect the vehicle and the charging station with the cable

6. You need to start the charging process with the charging card at the charging station

Step 1:

You will usually find the charging card in the glove compartment of the car. It is either a card or a key fob (with a chip).

Information about the charging card can also be found in the app. Click on a vehicle and then on "Info about the charging card" (see screenshot).

Who covers the costs?

The charging card is the payment method for the charging process. The costs are covered by the provider and are included in your booking.

Step 2:

Finding the right charging station can be a challenge in many cases.

Many vehicles have a charging station at the pick-up and/or drop-off location. However, there are also car-sharing locations that do not have charging infrastructure.

In these cases, you have the following options:

2.1 If the provider has enabled in-app navigation, you can find charging stations near you directly in the app. Click on "Info about the charging card" and then on "Show charging stations" (see screenshot).

You can navigate to the selected station.

2.2 If the provider has not enabled in-app navigation, you should use a freely available app from the app stores to search for charging points.

Step 3:

A charging cable should be in the vehicle. Please check the trunk. It might also be in the front (under what is known as the hood in a combustion engine vehicle).

In rare cases, there are charging points with a permanently installed cable.

Please always check if the plug type (see image above) of the charging station and the cable are compatible.

Step 4:

Electric vehicles have a "socket" into which the cable is plugged. This is located under a cover. The location of the socket and the mechanism to open it vary between different vehicles.

Please use a search engine to check where the socket is on this vehicle and how to open it.

Step 5:

Please connect the charging point and the vehicle with the cable. Make sure the plugs are fully inserted.

Step 6:

To start the charging process, the charging point must be activated. It is essential that you use the charging card (or charging chip) at the "RFID Reader" at the charging point where you plugged in the cable.

If available, a display will guide you through the process.

If there is no display, check the vehicle to see if the charging process has started. Usually, a green plug symbol or something similar appears on the vehicle's display.

NOTE:

Please ensure that the charging process has started.

INFO:

During charging, the app will inform you regularly about the current charge level.

FAQ:

What if there is no fuel/charging card available?

Please charge the vehicle yourself and inform the provider of the incurred costs (via chatbot or email).

What does the minimum charge level upon return mean?

To ensure the vehicles are usable for subsequent users, many providers specify a minimum charge level (typically at least 25%) or even require the vehicle to be connected to a charging station.

Ending a booking is only possible under these conditions. This is to ensure that you receive a sufficiently charged vehicle at the start of your booking.

Will I be credited for the time spent refueling or charging?

Please note that the time required for refueling and charging will not be credited separately. Therefore, please make sure to allow enough time to return the vehicle fully fueled and on time.

Timely return is important to ensure that no additional fees are charged for a late return. By planning enough time for refueling and charging in advance, you can avoid such additional costs and help ensure a smooth process.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. We wish you a safe and pleasant journey!
